As an Indian cricket fan,Our expectations are pretty high.We just don't settle for anything less than 'the best'.And why not? When we did have the conditions in our favor.I still remember the anticipation as school kids that we friends had!The proud feeling of the world cup being in our country! For a cricket crazy country like ours it was only an added feature on our cap. With the turn of each day the fever only grew stronger and stronger.
We began our journey with the opening ceremony on 19th February and from then on it was no looking back. The madness clearly visible.Every nook and corner of this mad mad country just shouted it loud "this one's ours!!' It looked like the country was painted in the tricolor waiting to paint the world with our colors.the crown was not an easy goal.It had to go through a war like semi-final between India and Pakistan!A thoughtof a match which sends jitters down the body of every global living creature.
Memories of crowded cantees jumping to catch a small glimpse, the radio commentary at the 'nukad ka chaiwala',endless discussions with strangers in the bus and train, bunking classes for watching the match!Painting the face to get the feel!Wearing the same dam clothes just for some superstitions! We left no stone unturned. Huh!! The list is endless.....How?how can we ever get over this feeling? The shouting on top of our voices to sing the national anthem loud and clear.our intentions crystal clear!
Frankly,I do not wish to get over the feeling of Mahi hitting the last ball in style!I do not wish to delete the image of a crying yuvi or sachin lifted in air!Why do I?The emotions riding high on the minds of every Indian burst out as Dhoni lifted that cup.My vision of 'THE CHAMPIONS' gets blurred as I have unknowing tears rolling down my eyes.
Tears a symbol of pride and joy.Even today as I write this today it leaves me with a smile on my face.I am mobbed with a flash of memories leaving me to sit back and wonder at the beauty of those moments.
Moments frozen in time and meant to be preserved till eternity.Today a year's gone by.....but it just...just...feels...like yesterday!
Dedicated to all the cricket fanatics like me who 99.9%of the times are firm, determined and strong on your point of view but just this one time were left flowing passionately in an emotionally stunned journey of what we call our 'LIFE'-CRICKET! Who are proud of being an unsaid part and have had the chance to witness, experience and live the golden page in the history of Indian Cricket! Enjoy and live this moment!! Cheers!!
Very nice...enjoyed reading it
ReplyDeletethank u so much...
ReplyDeleteWell my applause comes 1stly for ur choosing this topic, all the more as at the time when even illetrate in cricket would want to give two piece of advice to Indian cricketers forgeting just what happened a year back, hence as a cricket lover I am really happy for you selecting this topic.
ReplyDeleteIn article you have attributed a mild word "GREED" to describe few cricket lovers senseless basking for more, without knowledge or sensitivity, I repeat the word FEW and not all or many, because most people come in category of followers with attributes of Indian wife, (kitna bhi ignore karo, umeed pe paani dalo - next match, this guys / girls would be updating themselves with score) .. but then again we have assumed omnipresent breed of experts and analyst (some self proclaimed as well) who just find reason to criticize, despite past performance and also need of, at times to give discount of being human error / opposite team played better. (BTW, i want India to win every match, I do get angry, and even criticize to a extent at loss of match .. but theres limit and casting aspersion is not correct and deserved by players)
You have done fantastically well to get reader involved in your writing, and people could actually remember past glory of Indian cricket while reading, so more than half of the battle is won as writer, Dont leave, this attribute of your writing ever, its gift to you. However, If I can take liberty to advice you, do read your article again and may be again and after 10 minutes again, few of presentational (minor though) will be avoided, and your idea will be wrapped in most fitting package to give a knock out punch .. All the Best and God Bless you... Keep writing

DeleteThat's a sentimental journey through what we, the cricket crazy Indians, lived through exactly this date a year ago. That the very same sentiment or excitement does not dwell a mile anywhere near our hearts in present times, thanks to sustained failures of the team, is another matter all together. We live and relive the past moment that glorified India, that changed the lives of the then 15 who represented India and the arrogance that ensued this success thereafter. Needless to say, Indian cricket went into sojourn and still awaits a switch, a click that can transform them to their past glory.
ReplyDeleteNevertheless, let us live for the moment and cherish that wonderful day that it was exactly one year ago!! And of course, kudos to the team that made it possible too.
Lalitji, your thought process is intact :):) and brings out the best in any topic.
thanx alot!!
